Call for Board Nominations |
|
RAUSI continues to gain momentum as a think tank in defence and security, evidenced by the remarkable programming we’ve delivered so far and thanks to the work of RAUSI’s current Board and consultants. In anticipation of the forthcoming Annual General Meeting in late May and call for nominations, please note the following: - Any two (2) Members in good standing may nominate, in writing, a qualified person or persons who have consented to stand for the offices of President, Vice President and the vacant Directors posts of the Institute (per bylaw 23(a);
- Any such nominations shall be filed with the Secretary at least thirty (30) days before the date of the Annual General Meeting, and in any case filed with the Secretary no later than Tuesday 29 April 2025 (per bylaw 23(b)).
So, would you please consider nominating those fellow members - including yourself - who might be willing and able to contribute to RAUSI’s success. We are particularly interested in those who enjoy working in communications and marketing through social media. If you're interested, please contact the Secretary at secretary@rausi.org. Please call me with questions at 403-282-3347.
Thanks, |

Great white nothing: how Harper’s naval station became an Arctic white elephant 14 March 2025 – Global NewsEighteen years ago, Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued a rallying cry for Canadians. “Canada has a choice when it comes to defending our sovereignty over the Arctic,” he said on the shores of Esquimalt Harbour, B.C., while announcing plans for a fleet of new Arctic offshore patrol ships (AOPS) and a deep-sea port to be used as their base. “We either use it or lose it.” |

More than 40,000 Canadian Armed Forces members served in Afghanistan over the 14-year campaign. Yet very few Canadians understand why we were there and why it mattered — despite it being Canada’s longest war. Fallen Heroes is the template for a 10-part documentary series on the war in Afghanistan, preserving this little-known history for future generations. |

RAUSI is a Canadian-based forum for global civilians, humanitarian, military and international police communities to present original thought on trending issues, in their formative stages, as they relate to global security and defence. Formed in 1920 as a think tank, RAUSI later evolved into a service organization for veterans in the decades following the World Wars. In this new era, RAUSI has evolved back into a think tank, publishing original content, curating extant articles, and sponsoring speakers' symposia which amplify cross-disciplinary models of 21st-century security and defence. |
