Allies at the Frontline
European Playbooks on National Security Strategy While Canada enjoys remarkable safety within its borders, many of our allies live with constant reminders of instability nearby. For them, national security strategy isn’t theoretical — it’s essential. Allies at the Frontline explores how European nations close to conflict develop and implement their national security strategies, and what insights Canada can draw from their experience.
Our guest, Major General (Ret’d) Theo ten Haaf of the Royal Netherlands Air and Space Force and member of the Netherlands’ Advisory Council on International Affairs, will share perspectives from his work on the Peace and Security Committee and his experience within NATO. Thursday, 27 November 2025

War Museum announces passing of Chief Historian, Dr. Tim Cook |
|
Tim Cook, chief historian at the Canadian War Museum and widely regarded as Canada’s leading military historian, has died, the museum announced Sunday. In a statement, museum president and CEO Caroline Dromaguet described Cook as “a passionate ambassador” for both the museum and Canadian military history, noting that his impact over more than two decades had been “enormous.” Cook authored more than 19 books and received numerous honours, including four Ottawa Book Awards for literary non-fiction. |
