RAUSI Takes Note

11 January, 2022

RAUSI has noted with increased interest and concern the significant military expansion of Russia’s military forces now operating in the Arctic. The July 2021 release of the Kremlin’s national security strategy clearly pointed to the perceived threat from NATO to its territorial integrity; this includes the Arctic. This US Naval Institute article discusses a number of recent infrastructure and procurement items necessary for Russia’s military to operate in the austere Arctic environment throughout the year. With the US, UK and other NATO allies responding with military Arctic strategies of their own, Canada remains selectively silent on the topic.
