Richard Martin, a renowned strategic advisor and former Canadian Army officer, will explore how deeply ingrained worldviews shape strategic decisions, with a focus on the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Drawing on his concepts of Strategic Epistemology and Worldview Warfare, he will unravel how historical, cultural, and ideological lenses influence perceptions of land, identity, and sovereignty. |
7 January 2025 – Center for Strategic & International Studies‍ |
|
| Like his father before him, following a “walk in the snow,” Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau announced on January 6 that he would resign as prime minister and party leader once the Liberal Party of Canada organizes a leadership race. He convinced Governor General Mary Simon to prorogue (suspend) parliament until March 24 to allow his party time to choose a new leader.

Calgary's naval reserve opens its annual New Year's Levee to the public for the first time
1 January 2025 – Calgary Herald |
|
For the first time in more than 100 years, Calgarians were invited to a long-standing New Year’s celebration put on by the city’s naval reserve division. The annual New Year’s Levee hosted by the HMCS Tecumseh in southwest Calgary was previously limited to military personnel, but officials decided to invite members of the public this year as a way to build connections with Calgarians and raise awareness about the role of Calgary’s navy unit. |

From Cylons to Captain America‍ Thursday, 30 January 2025 Presentation at 1830 hrs (MT) The Military Museums (4520 Crowchild Trail SW, Calgary) Dr. Maureen Hiebert will explore how military artificial intelligence, weapons systems with different levels of autonomy, and the prospect of artificially enhanced “super soldiers” may change the nature of warfare in the decades to come. Topics will include: what military AI and autonomous weapons might look like and be used for; whether fully autonomous weapons will reduce or increase the use of force by states; whether such systems will uphold or degrade the laws of war and democratic civil-military relations; and the ethical and political implications of the enhancement of human soldiers. | |

RAUSI is a Canadian-based forum for global civilians, humanitarian, military and international police communities to present original thought on trending issues, in their formative stages, as they relate to global security and defence. Formed in 1920 as a think tank, RAUSI later evolved into a service organization for veterans in the decades following the World Wars. In this new era, RAUSI has evolved back into a think tank, publishing original content, curating extant articles, and sponsoring speaker’s symposia which amplify cross-disciplined models of 21st century security and defence. |
