In this compelling debut, Vas Patapovich examines how the Russian state fuses Orthodox religious language and historical revisionism to justify military aggression and reinforce its identity as a “defender of purity.” Drawing on firsthand research in Russian-language media, Vas explores how figures like Saint Stalin are used to rewrite history and bolster state narratives — particularly in relation to the Great Patriotic War and the invasion of Ukraine.
Expect a nuanced, deeply informed exploration of:
- Religious symbolism in state propaganda
- The role of historical mythology in national identity
- How this rhetoric directly shapes modern conflict — and why it matters in the West
Whether you’re in uniform or academia, public service or private enterprise — this session offers fresh insights into one of today’s most potent forms of state influence.
