Should Canada Have Mandatory Military Training?
Please join 3V on 05 June 2025 from 1800 – 1900 MT for a special Calgary event with journalist Deirdre Mitchell-MacLean for an in-depth discussion entitled: Should Canada Have Mandatory Military Training?
On the eve of American disengagement from Europe, the global geopolitical situation is rapidly deteriorating. Spheres of influence of previous eras are gradually reaffirming themselves and reshaping the world. As Canada seeks to define itself and its role in the new world, some countries are accelerating efforts toward building the capacity to national mobilization. What does this mean for Canada, with declining rates of patriotism and civic engagement? For which plausible threats should we be ready and how should we counter them? Should Canada have mandatory military training?
This engaging 20 minute presentation by Alberta journalist Deirdre Mitchell-MacLean will be followed by a Question and Answer discussion moderated by Frederic Maurette, 3V Calgary Chapter Lead.
This is an opportunity for all 3V members across Canada to listen in and express views and expertise on the topic. This is a non-partisan discussion. Our direct engagement with the media can help educate the Canadian public about the CAF (mission, strengths, limitations, constraints) and influence the coming debates to the benefit of all Canadians.
